Short answer

How does a xenon kit work out in a 2005 Seat Leon?

In this customer review of a xenon kit for the Seat Leon, Johan says he finds the result in his 2005 Leon fantastic: 6000K and much more light output than standard H7 bulbs. He chose the Hilox Evolution 2 H7 xenon kit for his commute over poorly lit roads in Friesland, Overijssel and Drenthe.
  • According to Johan the installation was, in one word, simple, with clear instructions.
  • The Hilox Evolution xenon kit fits every Seat, as long as you pick the right fitting.
  • Take your time working out where to tuck the ballasts away neatly.
  • Draw the light-dark cut-off of your halogen bulbs on the wall and check after installation that it is the same.

If you live in the countryside, you need to be able to rely on your lighting, and we mean good lighting. That is why Johan chose our new Hilox Evolution 2 xenon kit. A reliable kit that is easy to install and produces a serious amount of light, more than enough for the poorly lit roads of Friesland, Overijssel and Drenthe.

Xenon kit Seat Leon: why did you choose xenon?

I had already fitted xenon in my previous car, but my new Seat Leon didn't have it. My commute runs through Friesland, Overijssel and Drenthe, where the roads are poorly lit. The standard bulbs had far too little light output, and xenon is the light source for driving safely there too.

How did the installation of the H7 xenon kit go?

In one word: simple. Partly because I had done it before. But the instructions are clear and with the right tools it can't go wrong. Of course your car does need enough room to connect the bulbs without grumbling and to tuck the ballasts away neatly.

Suitable for all Seats

Want a Hilox xenon kit like this in your Seat? You can: the Hilox Evolution xenon kit fits every Seat, young, old, fat or thin. All you need is a left and a right hand (installing a xenon kit is very simple, so you don't strictly need two right hands!) and a xenon kit with the right fitting. Not sure which fitting your Seat has? Check our fitting finder or get in touch with us.

What do you think of the end result?

Fantastic! 6000K, much more light output than standard H7 bulbs.

Any tips for buying and/or installing?

Check how much room you have to tuck the ballasts and so on away neatly in your car. Take your time over this and test-fit everything first, so don't peel off the double-sided tape straight away. If you want LED, check how much room there is to place the cooling fins neatly in your headlights.

Pro installation tips: installing H7 xenon

In some cases the flat Evo 2 ballast fits entirely inside the headlight. If so, make sure you check that the height adjustment still works properly. And check the beam pattern too. With the halogen bulbs in, draw the light-dark cut-off on the wall or garage door. That drawing should be the same after installing the xenon kit.

Pro installation tip: aiming your low beams

Because nothing changes about the headlight itself except the bulb, in most cases you don't need to re-aim the headlight. Still, it is wise to check that you aren't dazzling oncoming traffic. Park your car in front of a wall with the standard lighting on and mark the cut-off line of the beam with a pencil or marker. After installing, check whether it is still in the same place.

What you need to know about the H7 xenon kit Evolution II

Johan drove with the Evolution 2 kit in H7. The current version is the H7 xenon kit Hilox Evolution II Black Duo. According to the product data:

  • Instantly 4 times more light than with halogen.
  • An IC chip keeps the current stable and prevents overheating and flickering bulbs.
  • With the CAN-bus II module the kit works fault-free in cars with CAN-bus or bulb monitoring.
  • Choice of three colours: 4300K, 5500K and 6500K. Johan mentions 6000K for his kit; the higher the number, the whiter and bluer the light looks.
  • 2-year warranty on both the bulbs and the ballasts.
  • The box contains 2 xenon bulbs and 2 Hilox Evolution II ballasts.

Where do the ballasts go?

Each bulb gets a ballast that supplies the high ignition voltage. Find a dry, flat spot close to the headlight, away from hot and moving parts, and test-fit first before you peel off the double-sided tape. Sometimes a flat ballast fits entirely inside the headlight; if so, check that the height adjustment still works properly.

Please note: according to the product data, this kit has no ECE or E-mark approval and is intended for the racetrack and private property, not for public roads. After installing, have the beam aimed and check that your car still meets the APK (the Dutch roadworthiness test) requirements. If in doubt, check with the RDW (the Dutch vehicle authority) or your inspector.
