Short answer

Why does dog whisperer Anniek Winters choose a Hilox LED dog collar?

Anniek Winters chooses a Hilox LED dog collar because safety comes above all: a dog has to be clearly visible in the dark to prevent accidents. The collar also has a lovely design and can serve as an ordinary collar all day long.
  • The Hilox LED dog collars can take a pulling force of 100 kg.
  • The PX1 collars are rechargeable and can also be ordered 100% waterproof.
  • Only let your dog off the lead where it is allowed, especially in the dark.
  • Top 3 walking tips: safety first, let the energy run free and know your own dog.

Your dog, your best mate, but sometimes also a bit like a small child..

Ever since we managed to "rope in" the Dutch dog whisperer Anniek Winters, I have read up a little more on bringing up four-legged friends, if only to avoid making a complete fool of myself. Team Hilox has done a decent enough job with our showroom shepherd, but honestly, bringing up a dog properly is a lot of work. I could not even take two steps outside with our shepherd without my shoulder popping out of its socket. Luckily, Anniek Winters' book helped me a great deal there!

In this blog we want to wake the sleeping dogs (read: owners) and share a few tips and tricks on how to walk a dog the right way, and how an LED dog collar can fit in. Because let's be honest, however well we mean, we do sometimes go on and on..

Dog behaviour expert Anniek Winters

For those who do not know Anniek Winters, let's take a few steps back and start at the beginning:

'Dog guru' Anniek, like many of us, was sadly not born with the 'dog-training gene', and she too went through the wringer raising her first dog, Storm. Storm was a beautiful Labrador with character traits straight out of the Tasmanian Devil, and despite her training as a dog trainer, Anniek did not quite manage to bring Storm up properly. But Anniek would not be Anniek if she were not determined to change that. Her help? Cesar Millan.

By sinking her teeth into a training programme with Cesar Millan, Anniek Winters got to see up close how Cesar works and was able to apply it to her own sweet four-legged friend. By now Anniek has mastered every technique for training a dog (and its owner), has helped an army of dogs, and even the trickiest cases are no problem for her!

Anniek and her pack

Did you know that Anniek gives consultations both at your home and within her own pack? On average she has some 20 to 45 dogs roaming about, ready to help other dogs!

The Hilox LED dog collars and Anniek: a Q and A

Of course we are very proud that Anniek has chosen Hilox too, so we put the following 3 questions to her:

Anniek, can you tell us why you chose a Hilox LED dog collar?

Safety comes above all! I think it is very important that a dog is clearly visible in the dark, to prevent accidents.

The advantage of a Hilox LED dog collar is that it has a lovely design and can also serve as an ordinary collar all day long.

Do you have a favourite collar?

My favourite is on its way! It is a collar I designed myself, in collaboration with Hilox*.

But for now my dogs wear a blue, a green and an orange fabric Hilox collar with 2 stripes, because I like those best. And around Christmas always green and red, because that looks so good in the dark!

These are the collars Anniek Winters is talking about:

Any handy tips for owners of dogs that run free?

First of all: only let your dog off the lead where it is allowed. Especially in the dark...

What I always think is important is that your dog does not go too far from you, so you can guide him properly if needed, and that he always comes back when you call him. If you want to learn more about this, I recommend reading my book 'Samen in balans' (Together in Balance) or visiting my website: www.anniekwinters.nl

Your four-legged friend: off the lead or on it?

An LED dog collar is of course handy when you walk your dog on the lead along the street, but a Hilox LED dog collar is also very useful when your mate runs free now and then. After spending hours watching 'The Dog Whisperer' and reading 'Samen in Balans', I have picked up a few tips of my own. Here is the Hilox top 3!

1. Safety first!

Before you head out for a walk, it pays to think about safety first. Make sure you have a sturdy lead and collar, for example. Did you know that the Hilox LED dog collars can take a pulling force of 100 kg? We also recommend always going out well lit in the evening, which you can do by wearing reflective clothing or using a safe LED armband. For the dogs, we naturally recommend the super cool rechargeable Hilox LED dog collars.

2. Let the energy run free

Do not count the little field around the corner as a "walk", and the same goes for the back garden. Go for a proper walk in which your dog can burn off his or her energy. You will find that playing with other dogs (off the lead) then goes a lot more smoothly.

3. The golden tip

Know your own dog! There is nothing wrong with admitting that you are still working on a well-balanced dog.

But do admit it if your dog does not (yet) always listen well, or is perhaps even aggressive now and then. If you know your mate can lash out at other dogs, keep him on the lead. Work out which approach works for you and your dog to introduce him or her to a group after all. Cannot work it out yourself? Talk it over with other owners (yes, really!), read Anniek Winters' book, or ask her for a consultation.

Dear owners and four-legged friends, we wish you lots of walking fun! Oh, and fun action photos of dogs wearing an LED collar make us very happy, so do send them in!
